3 Yoga Poses To Do With Your Little One

Your little ones live in a busy world. School and extra curricular activities along with some screen time can often leave kids feeling stressed.

​Yoga is a great way to help your little ones relax.

1. Tree Pose

This balancing pose is great for all ages and is often one of Dr. Aliya's favourites for super young yogis. We can guide our kids to imagine they're a giant oak tree with roots growing out of the bottoms of their feet.

Guide them: "Can you stand super tall and touch the sky?"
"Can you stay in the same position for 100 years?"

2. Cobra Pose

This pose is great for stretching your chest.

Guide them: "Lie on your tummy, place your hands flat next to your shoulders, press into your hands and lift your head and shoulders - be like a snake and hiss. Imagine you are one long spine with no arms or legs."

3. Butterfly Pose

This pose is great for loosening leg muscles and stretching the hips.

Guide them: "Sit on your bum with your spine straight. Bend your legs and bring your feet together. Flap your knees up and down like the wings of a butterfly."

An easy and affordable way to give yourself a deep tissue massage. Slowly rolling over various muscles helps break up tight muscles and improve healing and recovery especially after your workout.

Similar to tools like a balance board and discs, foam rollers can also be used for a variety of different drills and exercises. Take advantage of the roller's cylindrical shape (and it's ability to move with you) and use it for exercises like this rolling lunge.

1. Choose A Place That's Quiet And Get Comfortable

Create a feeling of being grounded by adding floor pillows or bolsters. Add scented candles or candle light to bring about a cozy atmosphere and our new fave, incense. Feel free to add gentle acoustic music if it further relaxes you.

2. Practice Rituals That Will Calm Your Inner Self



​This step will vary from person to person, however a warm, calm-inducing tea is often a great place to start. Journaling is another ritual that can help relax our minds. Often we have many thoughts bouncing through our heads throughout the day. Getting our thoughts out on paper, and expressing gratitude on a daily basis is proven to increase your happiness in the long term.

3. Try to Be Consistent

Practicing self-care is only as good as the time you set aside to do so on a regular basis.

Setup a recurring calendar invite one a day/time that seems accessible and realistic to you. Perhaps start off once a month and then move to once every two weeks.
