Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Manual lymphatic drainage massage (LDM) is an extremely soothing and gentle form of self care. The lymphatic drainage massages at Yoga Mamas can be enjoyed to optimize health in general, and we also provide a specialized focus in the areas of pregnancy and postpartum.

In pregnancy and postpartum, fluid retention can cause swollen legs, ankles, feet, face, and hands. Edema can cause the skin to feel tight and the joints to feel stiff, as well as putting pressure on nerves resulting in carpal tunnel syndrome. In the summer, many people in general tend to retain more water and experience swelling, tightness in the skin and stiffness and discomfort in the joints.

LDM uses soft massage techniques to move fluid from the tissues to the lymph nodes, which eases swelling and relieves discomfort, all while providing a relaxing treatment. All treatments are 60 mins and are performed by experienced Registered Massage Therapist, Elizabeth Stewart.

  • Manual lymphatic drainage massage (LDM) during pregnancy is extremely beneficial.

Fluid retention in pregnancy can cause swollen legs, ankles, feet, face, and hands. Edema can cause the skin to feel tight and the joints to feel stiff, as well as putting pressure on nerves resulting in carpal tunnel syndrome. By gently moving the lymphatic fluid using light pressure strokes this massage can ease swelling and discomfort as well as promote relaxation and calm.
  • Manual lymphatic drainage massage (LDM) can help reduce water retention in the postpartum period.

Puffy face, hands, arms, feet and ankles are due to the extra fluids produced during pregnancy, and can also be the result of extra IV fluids that may have been received during labor and/or delivery. LDM gently moves excess fluids into the bloodstream to drain, allowing the swelling to go down and aiding the body's natural healing process.

Postpartum lymphatic drainage massage can begin whenever the new mama feels ready.
  • Manual lymphatic drainage massage (LDM) is often recommended by healthcare providers pre- and post-surgery to help alleviate swelling, pain, scar treatment, and to support surgical recovery.

LDM can be performed in preparation for, or after delivering via cesarean.

LDM promotes healing by gently moving retained fluid back into the bloodstream.

A Note About yoga Mamas' Cancellation Policies

Please note that we do not offer refunds. Each event/course/training/wellness appt has it's own specific cancellation policy which is listed on each registration page. Please take the time to read these in full prior to registering.  Each event/appointment that we run is in partnership with a practitioner who is focusing their independent career in pre and postnatal health. This is their beautiful livelihood. This is why we have these policies in place. Thank you very much for your understanding. Jamie Kalynuik, Founder of Yoga Mamas
