Prenatal Chiropractic Care
Pre-existing but often unnoticed imbalances in the spine become stressed during pregnancy. In addition, the weight of a growing uterus has a tendency to change a woman’s biomechanics, shifting the center of gravity and putting pressure on joints of the hips, pelvis and lower back.
Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy can relieve and even prevent the common discomforts experienced in pregnancy. Specific adjustments (such as the Webster technique) eliminate the causes of stress in the spine. |
Labour Prep Chiropractic Care
As a baby develops, a woman’s uterus enlarges to accommodate the rapid growth. When the pelvis is in a balanced state, the ligaments connected to the uterus (specifically the round ligaments) maintain an equalized, supportive suspension for the uterus.
If the pelvis is out of balance or misaligned, these ligaments become twisted, causing a condition called “intrauterine constraint”. This constraint limits the space available for the developing baby to move. If there is intrauterine constraint as birth approaches, the baby is prevented from getting into the best possible position for birth. Even if the baby is in the desirable head down position, often intrauterine constraint prevents the baby’s head from moving into the ideal presentation for delivery. This may slow labor and add distress and pain to both mother and baby. Using the Webster Technique, a chiropractor gently opens up the pelvis, allowing baby space or room to move into proper positioning. If the baby is in correct position, the technique also helps to maintain that ideal positioning leading up to delivery. |
Postnatal Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care after delivery is incredibly beneficial for all mamas, regardless of they type of delivery they had.
Postnatal chiropractic care gently sets the pelvic bones into balance and ensures proper alignment. Once the mama has healed and is well enough to visit the chiropractor, gentle adjustments can also be made to the pelvic structures and recommendations for exercise and rehabilitation of the core musculature can be addressed to ensure proper healing and restoration. Seeing a chiropractor after baby also helps to decrease strain on the joints and muscles that new mothers may have from lifting babies and nursing. |
Infant & Child Chiropractic Care
Colic or irritability, poor sleeping habits, developmental/motor delays, digestion issues, lethargy or low energy, difficulty breastfeeding may be relieved with chiropractic care. Often, a newborn baby could have experienced a difficult birthing process or suffered from distress during his journey through the birth canal.
Chiropractic focuses on restoring function to the nervous system so that the body can work optimally and efficiently; invariably, letting the body heal itself. Chiropractic adjustments for adults differ greatly from those performed on babies and are very gentle using light fingertip pressure. |

What Mamas Are Saying
"Dr. Visram is incredible! Her enthusiasm and warmth makes you comfortable instantly. It was my first time going to a chiro and I went due to back pain for pregnancy. I went from hardly being able to sit at my desk to being totally pain free! She takes extra time with each patient to make sure that you are comfortable and at ease. She is a great source of information for pregnancy related health and wellness!" - Joanna Verweel
"I've been seeing Dr. Aliya throughout the third trimester of my pregnancy. I have avoided back aches and discomfort by seeing her once a week. I actually never thought in a million years I would feel this good in my final weeks. I'm so grateful to Dr. Aliya for her wisdom, caring nature and knowledge. My baby is in a good position too, and I'm sure that's because of having regular treatments." - Joy McCarthy
"Dr. Aliya is a fantastic and thorough chiropractor. When my son was 9 weeks old, he was colic, unconsolable and overall very fussy. I felt beside myself until someone at a yoga class mentioned bringing him to a chiropractor - of course! It made perfect sense. I'd been to see Dr. Aliya while pregnant for various reasons (including headaches, tailbone pain and a breech baby - you name it!) so I called and she was able to see us the next day. The change I saw in my baby was immediate. The crying and his sleep improved after one gentle adjustment and has continued to improve with every treatment. I would highly recommend Dr. Aliya to any new or pregnant mama." - Rhiannon Hogan
"As a client of Dr. Aliya’s since 2012, I am thrilled to recommend her as a fantastic chiropractor. She has treated me with care and warmth both during and after pregnancy, healed numerous sports-related discomforts and improved side effects from long hours at a desk job. In addition to many other positive qualities, Dr. Aliya Visram is empathetic, skilled and very thoughtful about her holistic approach to health. Our whole family is now cared for by her - hubby and toddler also enjoy the time with Dr. Aliya! Truly a benefit to the community and we are so thankful for her." - Natalie
