Earlier this week, we wrote a post on 20 Simple Random Acts of Kindness to spark some ideas for the upcoming #greatertorontoday and yesterday we brought some of those ideas to life! With the help of Global News and Mai Lin Jewelry, we were able to surprise our Yoga Mamas with flowers, cookies, 'Mindfulness Reminder' bracelets and so much love! We started the day by handing out flowers to all our Yoga Mamas who visited the studio yesterday. Later on the lovely Marlissa, Founder and Creator of Mai Lin Jewelry came with 'Mindfulness Reminder' bracelets for some of our unsuspecting Yoga Mamas. Then the fun really began when Global News stopped by with bouquets of fresh flowers and cookies to surprise the Mamas with! We are so happy and grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in such an incredible initiative, as well as give back to our beautiful Yoga Mamas community! Thank you so much to Global News, Marlissa from Mai Lin Jewelry and to ALL of our Yoga Mamas! Thank you for making it so wonderful to be apart of such an incredible community! #greatertorontoday
In celebration of Greater Toronto Day happening May 25th, 2017 we brainstormed some simple ways we could contribute to make Toronto and our community an even greater place to live and be a part of. Try one of these acts {or come up with your own!} and hashtag #GreaterTorontoDay on May 25th for your chance to receive $1,000 donation towards a local GTA charity of your choice. 1. Create a Care Package for Someone in Need.Next time you are out, pick up some extra items that someone who might have less than you could else really use {hygiene products, packaged food, items to keep them warm or cool}, package these items up and give them to a homeless person or a local shelter. 2. Do Something Kind For Your NeighbourWhether that means mowing their lawn for them, passing along your newspaper when you're done with it or dropping off some sweet treats, your neighbour will love that you considered them. 3. VolunteerThere are a million different organizations out there that would love some extra help. Pick one that you are passionate about and volunteer your time. 4. Surprise Your Office With a Special TreatBake some cookies, or cut up some fruit and bring it in for you and your coworkers to enjoy together. 5. Help Someone In NeedIf you see a Mama struggling to get her stroller down the stairs or an elderly person trying to manage their groceries, take a few minutes to help them out. 6. Write a Note and Hide it For your Partner, Child or Friend to Find LaterThis note will provide a nice break in their day and will let them know you are thinking of them. 7. Allow For Someone In Line To Go Ahead of YouAn additional 2 minute wait is a small price to pay and can help in a major way. 8. Write to Someone You Don't Know Personally, but Has Inspired YouIn this day and age it is not hard to send someone who's work or way of life has inspired you a quick e-mail or comment about how they have affected you positively. 9. Buy Whatever Children Are SellingWhether they are selling wilting flower's from their mom's garden or cups of over-sweetened lemonade, help bring those children closer to their goals with your support. Their big smiles when they hand over your purchase will warm your heart. 10. Clean Up an Area of the CityPick an area of the city {perhaps a local park or beach} and dedicate a set amount of time to cleaning it up. If everyone did this on a regular basis, the world would be a lot cleaner. 11. Prepare a Meal or Do a Load of Laundry for A Busy MamaThat little bit of help can do wonders for a mama who is trying her best to stay on top of things! Whether that help provides her time to herself, or allows her to check more things off her to-do list, she will benefit greatly from your small act of kindness. 12. Share Every Kind Thought You Have (Even With Strangers)Tell that barista how much you love her bracelet, or how much you appreciate the care your babysitter provides. No compliment is too big or too little to make someone feel special. 13. Send a Gift AnonymouslyPick someone you feel has been working really hard lately and send them an anonymous gift. 14. Offer Up Your ServicesOffer to babysit, walk a friend's dog, or help a grandparent clean their house. It's simple, yet significant. 15. Pay Someone Else's TabImagine how pleasantly surprised you'd be walking up to the cashier to pay and finding out that someone had already taken care of it. 16. Write a List of Why You Love Someone and Send it To ThemSmall details like the sound of someone's laugh, or the way they always know how to cheer you up are things that rarely get communicated, but mean a lot. 17. Make a DonationIt could be $5 or $50-every little bit helps. 18. Write a Friend or Family Member A Letter. How much fun is it to receive a handwritten letter in the mail? Think of someone you love that you haven't spoken to in awhile and send them your love-the old fashioned way! 19. Like Everyone's Photos on Social Media and Comment With Something PositiveYou will help make someone feel good about themselves. 20. Call Your Mama and Tell Her You Love HerThere's no greater gift to a Mama than hearing how much her children love and appreciate her. Do you have a favourite random act of kindness that we missed? We would love to hear from you in the comments below. PS Yoga Mamas will be celebrating Greater Toronto Day on Thursday May 25th in our studio with small tokens of love for all of mamas.
