Congratulations Mama, you’ve almost reached the finish line! The third trimester of pregnancy can be full of mixed emotions—the excitement of meeting your new baby, the fear of being a first-time parent, the bittersweet knowledge that your pregnancy is coming to an end—that said, this is the perfect time to turn to your yoga practice for affirmation and grounding.
Today we’re sharing six yoga poses, which are ideal for women in their 3rd trimester. In addition to your mat, you may like to have two blocks or a stool on hand, as well as a bolster or 2-3 pillows. If you’re not yet in your 3rd trimester, check out our prior posts featuring poses for your 1st trimester and 2nd trimester. "In Fertility Yoga, we rediscover our sense of oneness with all things and learn tools to manifest what you want through visualization and imagery." 1.Fertility Yoga Reduces Stress Anger, frustration and stress generate chemical responses similar to your nervous system’s “fight or flight” response. Getting on the mat helps you stay balanced during a very stressful time in your life, especially as you undergo fertility treatments. The breath work helps your body relax. It can also help lessen the side effects of hormonal treatments by lowering stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline which are counterproductive to conception. All fertility yoga postures should encourage awareness of the body and increase a sense of oneness and control. Another important physiological effect is on the endocrine system. Your endocrine system is responsible for your hormonal balance, and reproductive health. It plays an important role in fertility. Yoga can support and strengthen the endocrine system, allowing for proper hormonal balance. 2. Increases blood flow to the Uterus Practicing certain yoga poses opens up and increases blood circulation to the hips and pelvic regions. This can help break up scar tissue and other blockages that would impede circulation near the reproductive organs. Increased blood flow means increased oxygen capacity and increased nutrients to the area. The uptake in blood flow nourishes the endometrial lining of the uterus and can increase the chance of both fertilization and implantation.
