Osteopathy Services

Osteopathic treatment is a gentle hands-on approach to health care. An educated touch and gentle palpation are used to evaluate anatomy and its function. Temperature, texture, motion, and vibration of the body tissues can be perceived and there is a tactile communication between therapist and patient. Treatment is guided by the patient’s body responses; allowing the treatment to be very gentle, safe, and effective. Gentle pressures and positioning of the body encourage the nervous system and tissues to relax, releasing restrictions, improving range of motion, and increasing overall health and vitality. The goal of Osteopathy is to optimize the self-healing mechanisms of the body.
Osteopathy looks at and treats the body as a dynamic whole, therefore all systems of the body are influenced through this manual therapy including:
  • Nervous
  • Circulatory
  • Lymphatic
  • Musculoskeletal
  • Endocrine
  • Cerebrospinous (CSF)
  • Reproductive
  • Respiratory
  • Digestive and more

Osteopathy for Prenatal

BOOK NOW
The body goes through an incredible transformation during pregnancy. As baby grows, the body’s mechanics change, shifting your posture and changing where stress is placed upon the body. Hormone changes soften connective tissue which can exacerbate these stressors. Imbalances can become irritated or painful and restrictions in the tissues and joints can affect fluid flow causing swelling. These changing mechanics also means breathing can become more difficult.
Osteopathy is a very gentle non-invasive manual therapy that restores balance to the body.

An Osteopathic treatment reduces tension and strain so the body can adapt to the changes of pregnancy more efficiently. An Osteopathic Manual Therapist finds and frees up restrictions within the body, helping to improve body mechanics, so mama and baby can be more comfortable. Treatments can also improve baby positioning and prepare for labour
Osteopathy during pregnancy can be beneficial for:
  • Pain and discomfort (back, hips, neck, etc.)
  • Sciatic nerve pain
  • Numb, tingling, or cold hands and feet
  • Digestive disturbances (acid reflux, bloating, constipation)
  • Swelling
  • Morning sickness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Headaches
  • Poor circulation

Osteopathy for Postnatal

Following birth, Osteopathy can help restore balance from the stresses that occurred during pregnancy and labour. This can ease the discomfort and pain a mama may be feeling and help speed up recovery by improving blood and lymphatic flow, optimizing the self-healing mechanisms of the body. Hormone changes continue to soften the body’s joints after birth creating laxity, which can also lead to discomfort. Because of this joint laxity it’s also a wonderful time to make positive changes and improve and rebalance tensions throughout the body helping you feel better now and for the future.

Posture can continue to change after birth with carrying your little (and continually growing) one and breast feeding and treatment can also help ease some of the strain placed upon the body during this time. An Osteopathic treatment elicits a relaxation response through the parasympathetic nervous system which has widespread physiological effects on the body and means mama’s can feel calm and relaxed following a treatment.
These gentle treatments can include long term preventative care that helps restore pelvic mobility and alignment, reduce pain, and encourages overall wellness allowing you to relax, and enjoy your new little one.

Osteopathy following birth may help relieve:
  • Lumbar discomfort or pain (lower back, sciatic pain) and neck (neck and shoulder)
  • Pelvic pain
  • Wrist pain
  • Circulation issues
  • Digestive disturbance such as bloating, gas, and constipation
  • General swelling
  • Breastfeeding related issues
  • Wrist pain
  • Foot and knee pain

Osteopathy for Your Infant/Child

Picture
Many of the problems commonly experienced in infancy may be caused by the forces of labour and delivery. A fast, slow, instrument-assisted birth, or C-section can all have a different impact on the pressures applied and forces sustained during delivery. These forces may be imprinted in the newborn creating structural imbalances and a variety of symptoms. Osteopathic treatment for newborns is very gentle with the intention of establishing fluid continuity and allowing the nervous system to relax and heal.

Osteopathy may help newborns with:

  • Abnormal muscle tone

Osteopathy is also an effective treatment during other developmental stages in a child’s life and can be beneficial for:

•     Ear, throat, and nose concerns (such as otitis media/ear infections)
•     Sports injuries
•     Postural problems
•     Difficulties focusing or concentration at school

Erica Pearson, Osteopathic Manual Practitioner

Erica is a graduate of the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy (CAO) in Hamilton Ontario, where she received her Master in Practice Diploma of Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences (M.OMSc). This 4 year full time program was an absolutely challenging one, and changed the way Erica viewed the human body. It helped her understand why people can exercise and eat all of the right things, and still get sick or have pain. Osteopathy is where Erica has found her love and passion. She values the patient centered focus Osteopathy provides, and the individualized and practical/rational care it offers her patients.

Education and Certifications
Erica has long been passionate about optimal health and the human body. Consequently she spent almost a decade studying and learning this fascinating area of interest. First in London, at the University of Western Ontario where she graduated with a Specialization in Kinesiology and a Psychology Minor. During this time she volunteered at the Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic providing support for the Physiotherapists and Kinesiologists there. She also obtained her certification in personal training from the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology.
Knowing that there was still much to learn and enjoying the practical side of the theory in her sports injury classes, she continued her studies and went on to learn Classical Osteopathy.
Approach to Care
Erica is very gentle and focused in her approach, catering to each individual in the way that’s best for them. She enjoys working with people to help them achieve their health goals, whether it's being able to dance the night away at your wedding, experiencing fewer headaches and less neck pain, recovering from an injury, preparing for surgery, or just having increased vitality overall so you can live your best life!

When not in the clinic, Erica likes to spend time with her friends, family, and her two cats. She loves taking pictures, trying out new recipes, and being outdoors (especially at Ipperwash beach!). She enjoys reading as well as attending Osteopathic courses to continue learning and developing her skills and knowledge, as an Osteopathic Practice is a life-long learning and growing endeavour.

Approach to Care
Ada Kate is a graduate of the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy (CAO) in Hamilton Ontario, where she received her Master in Practice Diploma of Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences (M.OMSc). The principles of osteopathy speak to the body's ability to self heal and self regulate under the right conditions and Ada Kate wants to support patients through individualized care that is appropriate for that person, at that moment in their journey. Supporting/improving quality of life and feeling well prepared for whatever the future holds are key goals in Ada Kate's approach to osteopathy. She wants patients to feel empowered and informed about their bodies, and as such endeavours to include that education in her treatment room. Her personal yoga practice and understanding of how balance, deep rest, and proper care can fundamentally change a person's experience in this world is what inspires her everyday. A Note About yoga Mamas' Cancellation Policies

Please note that we do not offer refunds. Each event/course/training/wellness appt has it's own specific cancellation policy which is listed on each registration page. Please take the time to read these in full prior to registering.  Each event/appointment that we run is in partnership with a practitioner who is focusing their independent career in pre and postnatal health. This is their beautiful livelihood. This is why we have these policies in place. Thank you very much for your understanding. Jamie Kalynuik, Founder of Yoga Mamas
