12/30/2018

Picture
Recipe By Joy McCarthy Originally Published at Joyoushealth.com
This healthy green smoothie by Joy McCarthy is the perfect way to begin your first day of 2019! Packed with fruit, protein and electrolytes - this yummy tasting drink will prepare you for a new day and a new year....and depending on how your New Year's even unfolded, restore you as well :)

Health Benefits:
  • The "electrolyte" part is due to the coconut water which is rich in minerals and naturals salts such as potassium and magnesium.
  • The ginger is very anti-inflammatory due to gingerols
  • Pineapple is wonderfully anti-inflammatory as well and good for digestion too thanks to bromelain, an protein digesting enzyme.
  • The hemp seeds are a complete protein which is essential for rebuilding muscle tissue and it's a great source of good fats called GLA.
  • The banana and coconut milk make it thick and creamy.

6 Ways To Keep Mind & Body Healthy For The Holidays

12/14/2018

Picture
1. Take Some Time To Yourself

Take some quiet time to yourself, close your eyes and focus on your breath. Regardless of if you give yourself 5 minutes or 5 hours, you are sure to feel better after realigning with your authentic self.

Remember, the holidays are supposed to be fun, so try to release any pressures around what you should or shouldn't be doing and instead relax and enjoy because once the season has passed, you won't be believe it's already over.

2. Schedule Self Care In Advance
Often the times when we are our busiest are the times we need self care the most, so be proactive and schedule your self care in advance! Register for a yoga class, book a relaxing massage or plan a date with yourself and put it in your schedule the way you would any other task you need to complete. When the time comes you will be thankful to have a break where you will return refreshed, grounded and ready to take on the next round of festivities!

3. Set An Intention
Setting an intention is a powerful tool in helping to manifest your desired outcome and can be used as a gentle reminder of how you wish to feel when you get thrown off by stress. An intention can be as simple as a word such as 'harmony' or can be a sentence such as 'I intend to lead from a place of compassion this holiday season.'

4. Get Organized
Whether you are an old fashioned list writer, or Google Calendar enthusiast, set aside some time to get clear about everything you need to complete this holiday season. Break down each item into bite size tasks with realistic due dates that you feel comfortable with. By having the information stored in one place you will feel more in control and better equipped to deal when the busyness of the season takes over.

5. Do Less
Once you have a better understanding of all the things you need to do, ask yourself which ones are absolutely essential and what could be either delegated or skipped altogether. The holidays are about being present, having fun with your loved ones and practicing gratitude, if you don't make your famous gingerbread cookies or colour coordinate your tree perfectly, is it going to take away from any of that? Probably not. So, try not to stress! Be ok with not 100%. Do what you can and be in the moment.

6. Be Mindful Of What You Eat
The work parties, family gatherings and social events are sure to temp you to indulge in endless snacking. This is an important time to consider what it is that you are eating (and not eating!) and make some swaps and changes. Taking the time to carefully select what you put in your body is going to positively impact both your health and mood. You might have to miss out on some of your favourite festive treats, but your mind and your body will thank you!

We want to hear from you. What are some of your favourite ways to sneak in some downtime during this busy season?

Facebook Live: Chiro Or Physio - Which One Is For You?

12/7/2018

Picture
We recently sat down with physiotherapist Lamiya Zaidi, Chiropractor Dr. Elisa Petricca and Yoga Mamas' Founder Jamie Kalynuik to discuss common aches and pains in pregnancy and the postpartum period. Each practitioner touched on how their discipline would treat these ailments differently, as well as how both disciplines work together to create patient care plans for mamas.  Learn more about Physiotherapy and Chiropractic Care, know who to see when, which conditions they treat and much more.

Together they answered questions like:
  • What's the difference between Chiropractic Care and Physiotherapy?
  • When should you see a chiropractor?
  • When should you see a physiotherapist?

A Note About yoga Mamas' Cancellation Policies

Please note that we do not offer refunds. Each event/course/training/wellness appt has it's own specific cancellation policy which is listed on each registration page. Please take the time to read these in full prior to registering.  Each event/appointment that we run is in partnership with a practitioner who is focusing their independent career in prenatal and postpartum health. This is their beautiful livelihood. This is why we have these policies in place. Thank you very much for your understanding. Jamie Kalynuik, Founder of Yoga Mamas
