By Dr. Elisa Petricca - Yoga Mamas Chiropractic Care Doctor Chiropractic care during pregnancy is safe and effective during all stages of pregnancy. It is gentle, non-invasive and can provide mum’s with relief from various aches and pains commonly experienced during pregnancy. Chiropractic care during pregnancy also assists in establishing balance in the pelvis, which can help baby get into an optimal position for delivery. This is achieved through the Webster Technique! What is the Webster Technique? The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic adjustment, which reduces stress on the nervous system and improves imbalances in the pelvis and spine that occur during pregnancy. The purpose of the adjustment is to detect and correct sacral misalignment and SI joint dysfunction. Is it painful? Nope. The Webster Technique is a gentle chiropractic adjustment that generally helps the body move and feel better overall! Is it safe? Absolutely! Chiropractic care and the Webster Technique are completely safe throughout all stages of pregnancy – from the first day right up to delivery! How many treatments do I need? The number of treatments is determined on an individual basis. Different bodies respond differently to care, therefore the frequency of visits is not often a cookie cutter approach. However, I often recommend women to come in once a week after 35 weeks, to allow for optimal pelvic alignment prior to delivery. What are the benefits of the Webster Technique? During pregnancy, it is common to develop imbalances in the spine and pelvis. As the weight of the baby increases, pressure on the hips, pelvis and low back also increase. If the pelvis is misaligned, this can also cause certain ligaments around the uterus to become taut or twisted. In turn, this limits the space available for baby to move, which may prevent baby from getting into the best possible position for birth. The Webster Technique can help to reduce this pressure, by balancing out the pelvis and releasing any tension in these ligaments, allowing for optimal fetal positioning. The Webster Technique has been found to have an 82% success rate in clinical studies for breech babies (JMPT July-Aug 2002). Summary: Benefits of Chiropractic Care and The Webster Technique Helps to achieve a balanced pelvis and optimal baby positioning Shorter and easier labor Reduces the need for pain medication and/or medical intervention Helps to reduce common aches and pains associated with pregnancy such as hip and low back pain Improves ability to exercise Can help improve sleep Book a Chiropractic Appointment
