5 Ways to Nourish Your Skin in the Heat

6/27/2019

Picture
Our favourite parts of summer might be the warm weather and sunshine, but too much sun can zap skin of its natural moisture. To keep skin fresh, radiant and healthy, you’ll need the right tricks and tools in your arsenal. Below are 5 beautiful tips for fighting summer dryness!
1. Drink Water
According to the Mayo clinic, the recommended water intake for women is about 9 cups a day. This is about 2.2L of water in total. Easier said than done, right?
If you're constantly on the go, and or too busy to hydrate, grabbing a stylish, and eco-friendly on-the-go water bottle is a great way to remember to drink up.Our favourite is the BKR Water Bottle, which holds about 500ml of water. That means, you need to finish about 5 of the BKR water bottles a day to hit your hydration level! Keep track by putting a hair elastic around the bottle each time you finish one.

Drinking plain water can get boring so infuse your ice cold water with fresh fruit and herbs. Check out these amazing {and beautiful} flavoured water recipes via The Food Network: How to Make Water the Most-Delicious Thing Ever.

2. Exfoliate and Polish
Scrub scrub scrub! Clean and smooth your skin with this invigorating, mineral rich, gentle exfoliant for the face and body from Wildcraft.
The healing ingredients will gently remove dull skin and dry out blemishes so your natural beauty can shine through. Leaves skin feeling refreshed, soft and polished - perfect for those hot and humid summer nights!

3. Cool and Prep
Keep fresh and mist your face with Wildcraft's Toners between cleansing and moisturizing, or simply to refresh on a hot day or during travel. Pro tip: Keep in the fridge for a cool mist!
After cleansing, what your skin needs is a range of ingredients that restore and repair its surface. Skin can never get too much of these important ingredients, which include antioxidants and skin-repairing substances. Can be a quick substitute for cleansing.

4. Nourish
Our skin produces more oil in the heat, causing some people forget to moisturize too, which can be a mistake. With more perspiration we lose more moisture, so it is very important to re-hydrate our skin by applying moisturizers.
LOVEFRESH's tackle this job easily with their Body Butters; thick, rich and intensely hydrating formula's packed with Aloe Vera, Chamomile, White Willow bark and Calendula extracts.

5. Eat well
Watermelon and cucumber are incredibly hydrating foods (Pretty much 90% Water), which are perfect if you are in a heat wave like we are in Toronto.
It’s been insanely HOT here and although we love it, we are craving foods that will help avoid dehydration like this amazing salad from Joyous Health!

6.Exercise
Breathe, flow and stretch - Build up a sweat at Toronto Yoga Mamas, as you strengthen your body. Working up a good sweat is the equivalent of getting a mini-facial,  when the pores dilate, sweat expels trapped toxins, dirt and oil.
Just be sure to wash your face afterward, and hydrate to replenish the fluids you've lost.

A Note About yoga Mamas' Cancellation Policies

Please note that we do not offer refunds. Each event/course/training/wellness appt has it's own specific cancellation policy which is listed on each registration page. Please take the time to read these in full prior to registering.  Each event/appointment that we run is in partnership with a practitioner who is focusing their independent career in pre and postnatal health. This is their beautiful livelihood. This is why we have these policies in place. Thank you very much for your understanding. Jamie Kalynuik, Founder of Yoga Mamas
