What is Included in Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Traditional Chinese Medicine therapies include:
  • Acupuncture, which uses thin metal needles placed along the body's meridians.
  • Acupressure, which uses the hands or fingers to apply direct pressure to points along the body's meridians.
  • Cupping, which uses warm air in glass jars to create suction placed on areas of the body to help stimulate qi.
  • Diet. Yin and yang foods can help restore the yin-yang balance in the body.
  • Massage (tui na) on specific areas of the body or along the body's meridians.
  • Moxibustion, which uses small amounts of heated plant fibre (moxa, or Chinese mugwort) on specific areas of the body.
  • Qi gong, which uses movement, breathing techniques, and meditation.
  • Gua-sha: A method in traditional Chinese medicine in which the skin on the back, neck, shoulders, buttocks, and or limbs is lubricated and then pressured and scraped in strokes with a round-edge instrument.
Labour Prep or Labour Induction Appointments

Many people begin preparing their bodies for labour and delivery with Traditional Chinese Medicine at 36 Weeks.

If you're interested in treatment to help prepare your body for labour and delivery, or if you're past your due date and are hoping to help induce labour naturally, here is what you can expect.

During your appointment your practitioner will go through your current symptoms, health history, diet, sleeping habits and lifestyle. If you are in an virtual appointment you will be asked to send a photo of your tongue for the practitioner to look at. A diagnosis will be communicated and depending on diagnosis, your practitioner will go over diet and lifestyle recommendations, breathing/movement prescriptions, and acupressure/massage prescription. You will be taught in person or via videoconference with specific points for labour prep. You will also receive a downloadable file on acupressure for labour.

For labour prep (36-39 weeks), you are welcome to attend the in-clinic or virtual appointment solo.

For induction (once it is past due date), you are welcome to bring a second person with you to attend the in-clinic or virtual appointment. The second person can support you in acupressure as there are some points you many not be able to do yourself.

A Note About yoga Mamas' Cancellation Policies

Please note that we do not offer refunds. Each event/course/training/wellness appt has it's own specific cancellation policy which is listed on each registration page. Please take the time to read these in full prior to registering.  Each event/appointment that we run is in partnership with a practitioner who is focusing their independent career in pre and postnatal health. This is their beautiful livelihood. This is why we have these policies in place. Thank you very much for your understanding. Jamie Kalynuik, Founder of Yoga Mamas
