Prenatal Massage Frequently Asked Questions
What happens on my first Prenatal Massage visit? When you book your first massage appointment with us you will receive an email with a link to compete your confidential health history forms. Your massage therapist will be using this as part of your first prenatal massage visit. This is important as the registered prenatal massage therapist needs to understand your health history and understand if you have any medical conditions. If you are unable to fill this out online prior to your visit, it is important that you arrive 15 mins early for your scheduled fist appointment so you can complete the online forms on an ipad in our lounge area. At your appointment time your prenatal massage therapist will greet you and take you into our wellness centre and into your treatment room. Your prenatal massage therapist will then discuss your concerns, assess your individual needs and develop an appropriate prenatal massage treatment for you which you will then enjoy. After your prenatal massage is complete you will be accompanied to the front desk where our reception team will great you and provide you with a signed registered massage therapy receipt to submit for your extended health benefits.
Is Prenatal Massage Therapy covered by my work health benefits? Registered massage therapy is covered by most extended health benefit plans offered by employers. Prenatal massage falls under Registered Massage Therapy. You will be provided with a physical receipt signed by your registered massage therapist that you can submit for reimbursement. If you have specific benefits questions we kindly suggest that you contact your employer for more information.
How will I be positioned for my Registered Prenatal Massage? You will enjoy your prenatal massage on a traditional and comfortable massage table. You will be supported with specific pregnancy pillows, cushions and padded wedges to provide you with comfort and support. As your pregnancy progresses, your treatments will be offered in semi-reclined and side-lying positions with additional support provided to allow for the most relaxing and therapeutic massage experience. Many mamas are surprised that they can still receive deep work in these positions and end up loving it. We do not offer massage tables that have holes in them allowing for pregnant mamas to lie in a face down position.
When can I start coming for Prenatal Massage? Massage during pregnancy can be enjoyed anytime. If you have specific concerns or prenatal conditions, you will need to consult with your healthcare provider prior to receiving your first prenatal massage treatment with us.
Why is HST charged on Registered Massage Therapy? In Canada, before a health profession can be exempted from charging HST the profession must be regulated in a minimum of five (5) provinces. Registered Massage Therapists are a regulated health profession currently in only three (3) Provinces, Ontario, Newfoundland and British Columbia. Legislation is in progress in several other provinces at various stages. These include Alberta, Manitoba and Nova Scotia. Yoga Mamas is HST-registered under the rules established by the Canadian Government and is therefore required to charge HST.
