Kat Bayang, MA, MACP:
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) Accepting new patients Hello! I’m Kat, a parent of three and a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) offering individual and couples counselling at Yoga Mamas. With over a decade of experience in perinatal healthcare and peer support, my practice is deeply informed by principles of anti-oppression, inclusivity, and cultural safety. I’m committed to providing compassionate and comprehensive care tailored to each individual’s unique journey. I house my practice in Filipinx Liberation Psychology and Relational Cultural Theory. This dual approach guides me to focus on relational dynamics and cultural attunement in therapy, while finding grounding in an eclectic practice that draws on various therapeutic techniques like Narrative Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to address your needs. My background in midwifery also plays a significant role in my approach. The skills I developed through midwifery—such as harnessing agency and autonomy, offering emotional support and validation, being attuned to both physical and emotional needs, providing crisis care, engaging community and supporting people through significant life transitions—enhance my ability to provide thoughtful care through your own perinatal journey. Topics close to my heart include: parental identity, relational dynamics and disconnection, obstetric violence, birth trauma, racism and discrimination, grief and loss, blending families, sex and pleasure, and raising interracial children. My hope is to journey with you as you establish clarity and insight, reconnect with your embodied wisdom and your restore trust in your innate ability to parent yourself, your children and/or your wider community. Your story is important, and I am eager to understand where you are, the challenges you face, and the future you envision. It would be an honour to support you on this journey. |

I am a trained clinician with over 20 years of experience, registered with my professional college (OCSWSSW) and my services are covered by most insurance providers. As well, am the mother of 5 adult children and grandmother of 6 which gives me both lived experience and keeps me up to date on the joys and challenges of present day parenthood. Perhaps you are struggling with infertility, or questioning whether or not you would like to become a parent. Maybe you have suffered losses in the process of trying to start a family. You might be a new parent and struggling with hormonal shifts, lack of sleep, challenges with feeding and wondering how to divide household labour between you and your partner. Perhaps your partner relationship is strained with the welcome of your new baby, or one of your children is having difficulty adjusting to a new sibling. Maybe you are experiencing difficulties setting boundaries with extended family members, or finding it difficult to ask for what you need from others. You might be dealing with a role transition from being a full time professional to a full time parent, or are worried about your parenting skills. Maybe you have been managing mood challenges successfully, but the birth of a child has impacted your ability to do so because of the intense demands of parenting. Perhaps the pandemic has increased your sense of isolation or your health anxiety and you are navigating back to some sort of normalcy. Or maybe you are simply exhausted! These are some of the issues I am hearing about and would be happy to help you navigate, along with anything else you would like to discuss. As well, I would highly recommend the books Baby Bomb by Kara Hoppe and Stan Tatkin, and Impossible Parenting by Olivia Scobie. Both are available in audiobook format for busy parents, and in print form in the Yoga Mamas retail shop. I invite you to make an online appointment for a free 20 minute consultation to see if we would be a good fit. Looking forward to chatting with you! |

OUR SERVICES
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Your Initial Therapy Session
At your first appointment, we will focus on creating a comfortable and safe space for you to share and talk about what has brought you to therapy. First sessions can move slowly, as we build trust and begin our therapeutic relationship together. We will support you if you are not sure where to start or what to talk about – this is common in therapy. We will begin to get a sense of what therapy will look like for you as we move through the session. Ideally, you will leave the first session with either increased clarity about what you have been feeling or with a specific strategy to practice in your daily life. |
Your On-Going Therapy Work
Therapy work is highly individual. Sessions tend to unfold naturally, as we move toward your goals/needs. Some things we may work on include: connecting to and naming emotions, processing emotions in healthy ways, building trust with yourself, learning how to create boundaries or navigate certain relationships in your life, learning how to feel greater intimacy in your relationships, understanding the impact of different experiences you’ve had, identifying the role of anxiety and/or depression in your life, understanding and feeling grief or anger, supporting you to feel more understanding (and thus more control) of your mind and body.
