One way to start practicing more regular self care is to set aside time, and space that will replenish your spirit and soul. We love the idea of creating a space within your home, that is solely focused on nourishing your heart and soul. Our sister company shopbeautifully.com put together 3 tips for creating a sacred spot in your own home, that can be your place to practice self-care, any day of the week. 1. Choose a place that's quiet + get comfortable If your residence isn't large, you can easily increase the space + improve the flow by moving around some furniture. Create a feeling of being grounded by adding floor pillows, or bolsters (like this one from Halfmoon). Add scented candles or candle light to bring about a cozy atmosphere and my new fav, a healthier incense. Feel free to add gentle acoustic music if it further relaxes you. Put on an outfit that lets you focus on your mind, instead of a binding waistline. We recommend an ultra-soft legging, like these Encircled reversible Flipside Leggings, and a basic tank or t-shirt. 2. Practice rituals that will calm your inner self This step will vary from person to person, however a warm, calm-inducing tea is often a great place to start. One of our personal favourite blends is the white tea by 889 Yoga, served up here in our white stoneware mug. Journaling is another ritual that can help relax our minds. Often, we have many thoughts bouncing through our heads throughout the day. Getting our thoughts out on paper, and expressing gratitude on a daily basis is proven to increase your happiness in the long term. Meditate however feels good for you. Meditation is an individual practice that everyone approaches in their own way. Some people find having a meditation object such as Mala Beads, helpful for focusing. Our fave is the Intuitive Mala by Mama Malas. 3. Try to be consistent Practicing self-care is only as good as the time you set aside to do so on a regular basis.
Setup a recurring calendar invite on a day/time that seems accessible and realistic to you. Perhaps start off once per month, and then move to once every two weeks. Spend as much time as you can in your new sacred space. Creating this consistency of ritual in self-care in your life will let your mind relax, and expect the nourishment that is to come. |
